Oussama Khatib, Director of Stanford Robotics Laboratory, recently signed up as Chief Scientist for underwater robotics study at HRG Research Institute. According to the agreement, Professor Khatib will provide guidance and assistance to HRG in academic-corporate collaboration, underwater robots and dynamic simulation for robots, which will benefit HRG's technological advancement and expansion in overseas market.

The signing ceremony was part of HRG-Stanford Robotics Forum, and Wang Hongbo, HRG’s Senior Vice President, presented the offer letter to the professor.

HRG’s Senior VP Wang Hongbo signed agreement with Prof. Khatib on a series of cooperation

At the forum, Wang Hongbo introduced status quo of HRG’s business units as well as the company’s current focus on underwater robotics. Professor Khatib gave introduction on the Lab’s latest research achievement in underwater robots and provided insights on robotic technology trends. After that, the two had a round of thought-provoking discussion with robotics experts from COCO Capital, Ecovacs Robotics, ABB, TMiRob, and Charpie on the topics of Chinese robot market, the present and future of robotics industry, commercialization of service robots, innovation and entrepreneurship in robotics, and underwater robotics technology.

Discussion among Wang Hongbo, Prof. Khatib and other guests

Professor Khatib is currently a professor of computer science at Stanford University, Director of Stanford Robotics Laboratory and President of International Foundation of Robotics Research. He has received several awards such as research and development award issued by the Japan Robot Association (JARA), PROSE Award (Professional Scholarly Excellence) for physics and mathematics from the Association of American Publishers, and IEEE's Robotics & Automation Society RAS Pioneer Award and George Saridis Leadership Award in Robotics & Automation. He is one of the key persons in robotics research and has pioneered in automated robots, humanoid robot architecture, dynamic simulation and haptic response.
